In B.C. big corporations can lobby politicians, then hire them. This is illegal at the federal level. We need to update our ethics laws.
No wonder voters have a hard time trusting government decisions. Our ministers and bureaucrats are being recruited by the same companies they’re supposed to regulate.
When corporations hire senior decision-makers, they essentially buy a human shield. That person has insider knowledge and relationships that protect the company’s profits.
At the bare minimum we need a “cooling off period.” A delay of a couple years, so politicians can’t use their position to do favours for their future bosses.
