Yes to Pro Rep!

For too long, politicians and their friends — real estate developers, oil and gas lobbyists, political insiders — have a had a chokehold on this province.

It’s time for everyday British Columbians to take back our democracy. Together, we are going to take this system down and rebuild it into something that actually meets our needs.

Under our current system, power can be concentrated in the hands of the minority — career politicians and their lobbyists. Parties don’t need to appeal to all voters — they just need their base of supporters plus a small group of swing voters, meaning politicians don’t need to listen to the needs of all British Columbians. Corporations with Big Money, or even hostile foreign actors, need only to influence a small percentage of swing-voters to have an oversized influence on our democracy.

What does this look in real life? Casinos laundering dirty cash, fentanyl dealers preying on the most vulnerable, young people not able to afford to live in their hometowns, environmental catastrophes like the Mount Polley tailings pond, a pipeline and tanker project forced onto B.C. without Indigenous or local community consent… the list goes on…

All of these things (and so many more) are the result of a system that doesn’t protect everyday people. The system isn’t broken. It’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do — benefiting elites at the expense of everyday people. That’s the problem.

It’s time for regular people to take control of our own present, and future. But if we don’t change the old school system, we will always be pushing a boulder up a hill.

We are at a point of crisis. People are literally being kicked out of their homes and dying on the street. But British Columbians like you and I, who have been stepped on for so long, are waking up. And now we have this one chance.

Together, we are going to take this system down and rebuild it into something that actually meets our needs.
