On Sept. 4 of last year, consultant Marcia Smith registered with the B.C. government’s new lobbyist registry as representative for an energy industry group.
She disclosed that she would be lobbying the energy ministry, among other government agencies, and Energy Minister Richard Neufeld, among other Liberals.
Five days later, Sept. 9, 2002, that same Ms. Smith was hired by that same B.C. government on a $22,000 contract to provide communications advice on a new energy policy.
Energy Minister Neufeld was left improvising during question period: “The Opposition is trying to dig under every straw,” he fulminated.
