Dogwood is a people-powered organization motivated by a shared love of B.C. We believe in a more just, equitable and sustainable province. But to get there, we know Indigenous communities and British Columbians have to organize to take back power from political insiders and global corporations.
We’re probably best known for the No Tankers campaign. Since 2007, Dogwood and allies have prevented a massive expansion of carbon pollution and oil tanker traffic on the West Coast. Our supporters are definitely concerned about climate change and oil spills. But we don’t just work to protect the environment.
What we’re really looking for are tipping points: moments when enough citizen pressure can rewrite a law, reverse a bad decision or convince a politician to take a stronger position. That’s when we channel large-scale citizen action — both offline and online — to lock in change for the long term.
We currently have an opportunity for a Director of Organizing & Mobilization to join our unique executive leadership team and guide one of B.C.’s most successful political organizing programs.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with three other Executive Team members, the Director of Organizing & Mobilization will:
- Manage Dogwood’s engagement organizing program and a team of talented, full-time organizers.
- Coordinate non-partisan mobilization campaigns to get out the vote during elections and hold politicians accountable for commitments and actions related to Dogwood’s environment and democracy campaigns.
- Collaboratively manage the organization’s strategy, structure, culture and finances.
- Contribute to a more just and sustainable future for our province.
To be considered for this position, you need to be able to demonstrate:
- Significant experience coordinating, managing or leading organizations, groups or teams;
- Professional or personal experience working as an organizer with community groups, social movements, political parties, labour unions or in other relevant contexts;
- A supportive and cooperative approach to management; Personal initiative and integrity; Ability to think critically and creatively;
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively on diverse teams with a diverse array of people;
- A commitment to Dogwood’s mission and passion for its cores strategies and campaigns;
- A commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in your personal and professional life.
Other personal strengths, knowledge, experience, training or aptitudes in areas of management, staff supervision, leadership, organizing, campaigning, leadership development and volunteer management, elections, non-profit administration or specialized technical skills would be considered additional assets in this role and we encourage you to highlight them in your application.
