Dogwood is a people-powered organization driven by a shared love of B.C. We believe in a more just, equitable and sustainable province. But to get there, we know First Nations and British Columbians have to organize to take back power from political insiders and global corporations.

We’re probably best known for the No Tankers campaign. Since 2007, Dogwood and our allies have prevented a massive expansion of carbon pollution and oil tanker traffic on the West Coast. Our supporters are definitely concerned about climate change and oil spills. But we don’t just work to protect the environment.

What we’re really looking for are tipping points: moments when enough citizen pressure can rewrite a law, reverse a bad decision or convince a politician to take a stronger position. That’s when we channel large-scale citizen action — both offline and online — to lock in change for the long term.

We currently have an opportunity for a talented and experienced Development Manager to join our team. Dogwood has a strong fundraising culture and development is a shared responsibility. The core development team comprises the Head of Revenue, Supporter Services Coordinator, Development Associate, Communications Director and Operations Director.

The Development Manager reports to the Head of Revenue, and is responsible for:

  • Maintaining our robust grants portfolio
  • Overseeing email appeals
  • Stewardship for our Major Donors
  • Managing donor events

The successful candidate will have at least three years’ experience in fund development including previous experience with direct response (online and mail), grants, and major gifts. You are extremely detail oriented and organized, and also able to thrive in a flexible and dynamic work environment.

As part of our team, you’ll get to:

  • Work from either our Vancouver or Victoria offices.
  • Contribute to a more sustainable future by resisting carbon exports and reforming democracy.
  • Participate in the development of Dogwood’s ongoing strategy.
  • Work towards Reconciliation by promoting Indigenous Rights and Title.

To be considered for this position, you need to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, and affinity for, Dogwood’s campaigns.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills; and in particular, grant-writing and copywriting.

Any of the following would be considered strong assets:

  • Previous experience in a development position.
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation.
  • Formal training or certification in fundraising.
  • Experience working or volunteering with an advocacy organization or political party (any party).
  • Experience raising funds for an organization without charitable status.
  • History of personal service to the nonprofit sector.
  • Any language in addition to English that is spoken by a significant community in British Columbia.
