Dogwood is a people-powered, non-partisan organization driven by a shared love of B.C. We believe Indigenous and non-Indigenous people who live in B.C. have to organize to take back power from political insiders and global corporations.
Dogwood is best known for its No Tankers campaign. Since 2007, Dogwood and allies have prevented a massive expansion of carbon pollution and oil tanker traffic on the West Coast. Our supporters are definitely concerned about climate change and oil spills. But we don’t just work to protect the environment.
What we’re really looking for are tipping points: moments when enough citizen pressure can rewrite a law, reverse a bad decision or convince a politician to take a stronger position. That’s when we channel large-scale citizen action — both offline and online — to lock in democratic transformation.
We currently have an opportunity for a temporary organizing position in partnership with the Canada Summer Jobs program.
As part of our team, you’ll get to:
- Manage a youth team on an innovative digital canvassing project;
- Test online and grassroots ways to connect with people who care about Dogwood campaigns like No Tankers, Local Power and End Fossil Fuel Subsidies
- Support the #Vote16BC campaign to lower the voting age
- Assist with data management
- Recruit new volunteers
- Collaborate with other youth organizers and Dogwood staff
To be considered for this position, you need to:
- Demonstrate an understanding of Dogwood’s campaigns and commitment to the organization’s mission and values;
- be comfortable talking to people over the phone, online using social media and in person;
- have previous experience managing a team (work, school or volunteer)
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Other personal strengths, knowledge, lived experience, training or aptitudes in areas of organizing, campaigning, community-building, volunteer management, using Nationbuilder, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or other specialized technical/digital skills would be considered additional assets in this role and we encourage you to highlight them in your application.
